The reunion is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 27 from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. at the Papaikou Hongwanji. There is a cost of $10.

On Sept. 19 Hokulea navigator Chad Paishon and crew member Leiohu Santos-Colburn came to Honokaa High and Intermediate. They shared their recent trip on the Hokulea that went to Samoa with the Agriculture and Culinary classes grades 8-12. Students also caught a glimpse of the World Wide Voyage that is taking place in the next couple years and its mission to Malama Honua (Earth).

Lydia’s Closet has a new home with new hours, and new types of merchandise. The “Grand Opening” is Saturday, Nov. 1, which is the anniversary day of the original Grand Opening in 2009. The Honokaa United Methodist Church welcomes everyone to explore their new spacious thrift/boutique shop now conveniently located in the cottage at the end of the church parking lot. Special hours for the Grand Opening will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also they are having their annual bake sale at the grand opening and will be serving coffee.
Regular hours will be Saturdays, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Watch for a weekday afternoon to soon be added to the schedule. Merchandise now includes apparel and accessories, kitchen and household goods, electronics, gardening items and Christmas decorations.

When nine Polynesian men from the island of Oahu put their musical energy together, it adds up to one of the hottest RIB (Rhythm, Island and Blues) bands in the Pacific. Waikoloa Beach Resort announced that Nesian N.I.N.E. will appear in the Waikoloa Bowl for a very special, one-night-only concert, Saturday, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m. The concert is free as a gift to the community.
Since they hit the airwaves in 2009 with Hoku-nominated “Press Play,” Nesian N.I.N.E. (Natives Inna New Era) has been a band in demand, playing top clubs, concerts and music festivals in the islands and on the West Coast. They have had multiple guest appearances on KFVE TV “Heineken Hot Hawaiian Nights.” The group has shared the stage with top stars like Boyz II Men, Midnight Star, Brian McKnight, Klymaxx and El Debarge, delivering original covers of R&B, soul ballads and “old school” with their own unique blend of style.
Shar Carillo &Crew kick off the night, getting the energy going with Hawaiian, Pop, Rock, R&B and Country hits. Carillo is part of a multigeneration musical family, including mom Loke Sasil, half of the popular duo “Leahi.” She and the Crew fill some of the best music venues across the islands, appearing at Honolulu RAW, KITV’s“Island Hopping” and KFVE’s “Living Local with the Baraquios.”
Doors open to Waikoloa Bowl at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 5:30 p.m., with opening set by Shar Carillo &Crew, and Nesian N.I.N.E. in concert emceed by Shannon Scott. Beach towels, blankets or chairs welcome; no coolers permitted to this alcohol and drug-free event.
